Elements: Adding Missing Publications

A guide to setting up and maintaining Elements profiles

Confirm Name-Based Search Settings

Before you go down the rabbit hole of manually uploading publications, make sure that everything is correct with your name-based search settings i.e. that you've put in all variants and that you don't have anything in the "journals" field.

Claiming Pending Publications

Before manually adding publications, check to see if you have any "Pending" publications. These are publications that the system thinks you wrote but is not completely sure.

Step 1. Navigate to "Publications" by clicking the heading on the home page.

Step 2. Click the "Pending" tab at the top of the page.

Step 3. If you (or the Faculty Member that you are a delegate for) wrote a paper, then click "Claim". If not, then click "Reject".

Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all "Pending" publications are either claimed or rejected.

Manually Adding Publications

Step 1: Navigate to your publications page by clicking the "Publications".

Step 2: Make sure that the missing publication is not under the "Pending" tab first. If it is not, then select the blue button with a plus sign to add a new publication.

Step 3: Select the type of publication you would like to add.

You can add a wide range of publication types from journal articles and pre-prints to posters and book chapters.

Step 4: Put in the DOI, ISBN, title or other identifier for your work. Then, click "Search" to bring up possible matches.

The options available will change depending on which publication type you have selected in the last step.

Step 5: Once you find the correct publication, click "Claim". From here, follow the dialog on the screen to continue claiming your publication. Importantly, there is no need to associate grant funding with your publication. Just select "Grant not listed" to navigate through this option.

Once you have navigated through the publication claiming menu, it will appear in your list of publications.
