Elements: Automatic Claiming

A guide to setting up and maintaining Elements profiles

Automatic Claiming

This page of the LibGuide is designed to help you link an ORCID account to your Elements profile to enable automatic claiming. When Elements detects a new ORCID-associated publication, it will automatically link the publication to your profile. In fact, setting up automatic claiming is the fastest and easiest way to make sure that your public profile and list of publications is the most up to date.

How to Set Up Automatic Claiming

Linking Your ORCID iD for Automatic Claiming

Step 1: Do you have an ORCID iD?

If not, you should get one. It is a free way to help track your publications and to help distinguish you from other researchers who may have a similar name. Visit orcid.org to sign up for one. It takes about 2 minutes to get signed up. See the LibGuide on ORCID for more information.

Step 2: Open the main menu by clicking on the icon in the top left. Then, under the "My Profile" tab, click "Automatic Claiming" under the "Settings" heading.

Step 3: Input your ORCID iD, Scopus ID, Web of Science ResearcherID (if you have one), and your CSHL email address.

Step 4: Click the "Manage" button once you have connected your ORDIC iD. Configure your ORCID iD to automatically claim publications for you when they are found. Click "Confirm" to save the setting, and then click "Cancel" to leave the menu.

By doing this, Elements will automatically recognize when you have published a new paper and will include it in your public profile. Make sure that you include your ORCID iD in your author affiliation when publishing new articles to make this process seamless.

The informationist will see when new publications have been added to your profile and will ensure that they are added to the Institutional Repository as well.
