NIH 2023 Data Management and Sharing Policy: What goes into a Data Management and Sharing Plan?

NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy effective January 25, 2023

Data Management

Data Management is an increasingly important skill for researchers. While a Data Management Plan can not predict every situation that may occur, proactive planning for file management, metadata, and long-term storage can save time and effort in the long term. A more in-depth guide to data management at CSHL can be found here.

element

Standards: Describe if any standards will be applied to the scientific data and associated metadata.

Data Preservation, Access, & Associated Timelines: Give plans and timelines for data preservation and access. See additional info on repositories at the NIH Scientific Data Sharing website or Supplemental Information from NIH.

elements

Access, Distribution, or Reuse Considerations: Describe any applicable factors affecting subsequent access, distribution, or reuse of scientific data.
