Step 1. Navigate to the source that you would like to save to your Zotero library. Find the Zotero extender icon in your browser and click it.
Step 2. A pop-up will appear where you can specify which collection/folder you wish to put the source. Zotero will also download the PDF of the source if it is available to you.
Step 3. Check your Zotero library to make sure the source was downloaded. It is also good practice to review the citation information to make sure that the information looks complete and correct. This way, when you are citing the source down the road, you do not have to go back and correct the entry.
You can also import sources in Zotero by searching by various identifiers such as the PMID, DOI, and ISBN. To do this, click the magic wand icon in the top toolbar of your Zotero library and input the identifier.
Step 1. If a PDF does not attach automatically or you have to request it through Interlibrary Loan, you will need to attach the document to the source in your Zotero library. First, download the document you wish to attach to a source. Then, navigate to the source in your Zotero library.
Step 2. You can attach a file two ways:
You can right click and attach the file that you downloaded.
You can also attach a document by clicking the source and finding the paperclip icon on the right toolbar for the source. Then, click the plus button to attach a document.
Simply drag them into your Zotero library and it will extract the relevant metadata to create a reference. You may have to manually fix some categories. However, Zotero is very good at correctly inputting the information especially for newer articles that have been thoroughly and correctly tagged.
