A guide to using Overleaf

What is LaTeX?

LaTeX (LAY-tekh) is a software system that is used to prepare and format manuscripts. It is based on the principle of What You Say Is What You Mean. It uses markup tagging conventions to format and display your documents. LaTeX is often used by people in the fields of physics, mathematics, and quantitative biology because of the ease and precision with which you can input equations and formulas.

What is Overleaf?

Overleaf is a platform that allows for the preparation of scientific documents using LaTeX. Overleaf is cloud based, and has the additional benefit of allowing simultaneous collaboration between multiple authors. It also partners with a number of scientific publishers which provide templates to facilitate the submission of manuscripts in the proper format.
